Why Should You do Research as an Undergraduate Student?

When people think about undergraduate research, they might imagine people in a science lab wearing white coats peering through microscopes, but undergraduate research opportunities go beyond the science and health disciplines. There are countless opportunities for research in every discipline. 

Participating in undergraduate research allows you to gain hands-on experience, to develop a variety of employable skills and to network and connect with professionals and peers in your field.

What types of educational delivery modes are available at VIU this fall?

With the direction and support of BC’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, VIU is now planning for a safe return to on-campus instruction for Fall 2021, taking into account the health and safety Dr. Henry mentioned in her letter to post-secondary presidents. Information about how most courses and programs will be delivered will be available through the timetable system on April 26, 2021.

Getting out of the Fog

It is that time of year again when reading break is a distant memory and sh*t just got real.  Completing end-of-term projects and studying for tests, as well as ensuring you are still sleeping and getting a breath of fresh air now and then is getting extremely challenging. “And my brain – oh my foggy brain. It is getting so difficult to think clearly.”

Vancouver Island University’s ‘su’luqw’a’ Community Cousins Aboriginal student mentorship program is celebrating its 10th anniversary in September 2021. In honour of this important milestone, we are sharing stories of people closely connected with the program every month leading up to the anniversary. Stay tuned for a celebration of this important milestone in February 2022 – when we hope to be able to gather in-person.
